Mainstream Vodka’s limited-edition release is a tribute to Lady Jane Grey, the Nine Days’ Queen, and it turns her story into something you can actually interact with. The set comes with three bottles, each one tied to a key figure in her life: Jane herself, her father who pushed her onto the throne, and Mary Tudor, who ultimately overthrew and executed her. The design takes inspiration from classified government files, so each bottle is wrapped in heavy black redaction lines. You use a penny to scratch them away and slowly uncover the full story as you go.
The idea is to connect the political maneuvering of Tudor England with how power still gets used and controlled today. By making people physically reveal what’s hidden, it pushes you to think about who’s really making the decisions behind the scenes, both back then and in the present.

A SONG FOR YOUR SCROLL:
With alcohol packaging as a focus in the design process, the goal was to create something consumers could actually interact with rather than just look at on a shelf. In a crowded retail environment where bottles are constantly competing for attention, it’s easy for even strong concepts to get overlooked. To stand out, the idea of the container and the penny was introduced as part of the experience.
The container that holds the three bottles is designed to resemble a top secret CIA-style briefcase, reinforcing the theme of secrecy and discovery. Each bottle includes a penny attached to the top, intended to be used to scratch away the black censorship lines and reveal the full story underneath. These elements work together to turn the packaging into a more hands-on, interactive experience for the consumer.
